Analysis
Andy who?! Obviously I don't mean that, but you get the point. Despite the FA's decision to back cheaters and uphold Andy Carroll's three match ban last week, West Ham came through a potentially tricky away game at Villa Park to record back to back Premier League wins for the first time in living memory (well, since March 2011).

And it turns out the perception that Kevin Nolan could only play football when his mate was on the pitch was wrong. Nolan did was Nolan does and converted both his opportunities into goals, and played a significant part in creating both goals too.

This wasn't a particularly good performance from West Ham. According to Squawka, Aston Villa had 60% of the game on Saturday afternoon. Their previous best for the season was 56%, and they'd only managed more than 50% on four occasions before the weekend. In fact, they've had more than half the possession just 14 times in the 62 games before Saturday.

But they failed to make their possession count. West Ham made an enormous 76 clearances at Villa Park, and James Collins was at the centre of it.

The big Welshman made 22 clearances, 2 interceptions, won 5 headed duels, and made one successful tackle. He was a rock against his former side, as he has regularly been since returning to West Ham from Villa at the start of last season.

The image below shows Collins clearances.

Outside of yet another resolute defensive performance, there were some good offensive performances too.

Someone who I felt stood out was Matt Jarvis. The one time England winger has struggled for form since his big money move from Wolverhampton Wanderers 18 months ago, but in the last couple of weeks has seemed to return to form a little bit.

Jarvis completed two of his five crosses, has a pass success rate of 81%, created one chance for his teammates, and put on three attempted tackles. He also linked up very well with George McCartney down the left flank, with 47% of our attacks coming down their side.

Jarvis was also involved far more than usual. This season, he has averaged just 12.8 passes per game. On Saturday, he attempted 21 and was successful with 17 of them - the fifth highest in the West Ham side.

The image below shows Jarvis' heat map. As you can see, he worked up and down the left wing (as you'd expect) but also came inside with more regularity than we are used to seeing.

The other thing I want to point out is mostly for a bit of fun.

Despite spending large portions of the game under the cosh, Adrián managed to find himself venturing out of his area to meet the ball on a few occasions, as shown by the little blue patch on the right wing on his heat map below!

We now sit at fifth place in the current form table, having picked up 10 points from the last 5 games. With games against Norwich City and Southampton coming up, there is a real opportunity for us to move ourselves away from the danger zone before the end of February.
